The MLB Draft Combine starts Tuesday in Phoenix but you can put together your top picks for the mid-July draft without dissecting the festivities. The top of the draft is filled with elite college batters and two superb college hurlers. There's also a probable high school position player in the top 10.Of course, no matter how impressive the prospect, there's no guarantee the player will pan out. After all, it was easy to tell Stephen Strasburg should be the No. 1 overall pick in 2009 but Mike Trout wasn't selected until No. 25. Guys named Donavan Tate, Tony Sanchez and Matt Hobgood went 3, 4 and 5 overall. Here's a half-dozen players to know and another on the rise:Oregon State 2B Travis BazzanaThe left-handed hitter is viewed as the favorite to go No. 1 overall to the Cleveland Guardians. The Australian-born Bazzana batted .407 this season and smacked a school-record 28 homers, while also setting Beavers' career marks of 45 long balls and 251 hits. He won't need much minor league seasoning.Georgia OF Charlie CondonThe Dick Howser Trophy winner leads the nation in batting average (.443) and homers (37) and could push Bazzana for the No. 1 slot. He also can play third base and first base and has a superb throwing arm. Condon wasn't selected after his high school career but he's highly regarded now.Florida 1B/LHP Jac CaglianoneThe left-handed-hitting slugger could go No. 3 overall to the Colorado Rockies and someday play in the Mile High air. He smacked a homer in nine consecutive games earlier this season and his 33 blasts share the school record he set last season. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2022 and his arm has bounced back well but his bat is his ticket to the majors.Wake Forest RHP Chase BurnsHe transferred from Tennessee after last season and flourished in 2024 with 191 strikeouts in 100 innings. Burns went 10-1 with a 2.70 ERA and held opposing batters to a .175 average. His pitching arsenal has always stood out and his command has improved.Arkansas LHP Hagen SmithThe other top-flight starter, his stock rose in February after he struck out 17 in six innings against Oregon State. Overall, he fanned 161 in just 84 innings while limiting hitters to a .144 average. Smith also fools batters by dropping to a three-quarters delivery.Jackson Prep (Flowood, Miss.) SS Konnor GriffinConsidered a potential five-tool prospect with his combination of power, strength and speed. Griffin turned 18 and already stands 6-foot-4, 215 pounds and figures to get even stronger. Some team will be just fine with waiting until 2027 to see Griffin in the majors but he will have leverage due to the college offer he accepted from LSU.Tennessee 2B Christian MooreA player pegged for the middle of the first round, Moore has picked a great time to make an impact. Moore became the second player in Men's College World Series history to hit for the cycle in the Volunteers' first game and then made a stunning defensive play in which he displayed range, athleticism and arm strength in the second game. He is batting .384 with a school-record 33 homers and everything about him says "future major leaguer." The London club have also been linked with Roma attacking midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo and Barcelona forward Memphis Depay, while teenage wing-back Destiny Udogie is expected to arrive form Udinese and return to the Serie A club on loan.
They are also reportedly set to trigger a £41million release clause to make centre-back Cristian Romero s loan move from Atalanta permanent.

Arsenal are set to complete the signings of Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht and Nuno Tavares from Benfica, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The services of the 21-year-old Anderlecht midfielder should cost the Gunners 17.5 million straight up, with various add-ons to come on top of that amount. The only thing left to sort out at this point is the percentage of any future sale the Belgian side would be entitled to. With Dani Ceballos already gone back to Real Madrid and Granit Xhaka likely to join AS Roma, there should be room enough for Lokonga in the midfield department at the Emirates.
As for Tavares, also 21, Arsenal will be paying Benfica around €8m plus add-ons. His role will be to provide manager Mikel Arteta with a decent option to cover for Kieran Tierney …
Christophe Berra scored a late winner as Scotland prepared for a crucial Euro 2016 qualifier with a 1-0 win over Northern Ireland at Hampden Park on Wednesday.
Both teams have performed well in qualification so far; Scotland sit third in Group D with seven points going into Sunday s clash with Gibraltar while Northern Ireland are second in Group F with three wins from four ahead of a home game against Finland.
It was the hosts who eventually claimed a deserved triumph in Glasgow, edging a contest that provided little in terms of entertainment.
Manchester United s Jonny Evans captained Northern Ireland in his first appearance since receiving a six-match ban for spitting at Newcastle United s Papiss Cisse and it was his defence that received the sterner test as S…
Alou Diarra has taken a swipe at West Ham s style of football during his spell at Upton Park.
Under Sam Allardyce, Diarra had two seasons at West Ham, although half of the second of those was spent on loan at Rennes.
Diarra made just six Premier League appearances for West Ham, before being released at the end of the 2013-14 campaign.
Now at Charlton Athletic, Diarra has spoken of his unhappy time at Upton Park.
My first experience in England was frustrating because I didn t play many games at West Ham, he told Charlton s matchday programme.
I did well in training but it just wasn t football. They played a lot of long balls but for me that is too easy. I ve always played hard stuff. I like to get into position with pressure.

Spain internationals Xavi and Iker Casillas have jointly won this year s Prince of Asturias Sports Award.
The Barcelona midfielder and Real Madrid goalkeeper, who were put forward by FIFA president Sepp Blatter, got 11 out of the 18 votes, and will receive the award at a ceremony at Oviedo s Campoamor Theatre on October 26.
They asked me in my capacity as judge for the awards, to offer an idea, and the first names that came to me were Casillas and Xavi. Not only for what they ve won on the pitch, but what they ve demonstrated off it, Blatter told AS.
Because they represent the unity of Spain over and above the differences there are between Madrid and Barca.
They re friends first and opponents later, and they put this friendship above the rivalry.

England went to Seville last night to take on the might of the European Champions Spain.
Fabio Capello went into the game without the injured Steve Gerrard and Wayne Rooney and Spain had to take to the field without Carles Puyol who suffered a thigh injury at the weekend. Other than that, both managers had a pretty full squad to choose from for what was billed as a friendly, but meant a lot more than that to both countries.
Confidence
Confidence in Spain was sky high after their glorious victory at Euro 2008 and confidence in England was pretty high as well after an unbeaten start to their World Cup qualifying campaign and an excellent win in Germany.
So, who’s confidence was justified and who’s was misplaced?

A first-half brace from Nashville striker Hany Mukhtar propelled his side to a 4-0 home win against FC Dallas in a Western Conference showdown on Sunday.
Less than five minutes into the action, Mukhtar received a pass on the right-hand side of the penalty box and seemingly dribbled himself into too tight of an angle to shoot – but he did just that, rocketing one into the roof of the net to make it 1-0.
Mukhtar then turned distributor for Nashville s second goal, playing with his back to the goal and laying one off for debutant Jacob Shaffelburg in the 22nd minute to make a productive start with his new side after arriving from Montreal.
The incredible first half for Mukhtar was capped off with a picture-perfect free kick from the top of the box, expertly curlin…
